Interested in working with us? We’re honored!

Please send your query letter, proposal, and/or manuscript to submissions@neonliterary.com.

Here are some important things to know:

  1. We represent adult nonfiction and literary fiction intended for national audiences.

  2. We work almost exclusively with commercial publishers: i.e., the big 5 (Penguin Random House, Simon and Schuster, Macmillan, Hachette, and HarperCollins) and top national independent companies (including but not limited to W.W. Norton, Grove/Atlantic, Graywolf, Catapult, Melville House, Tin House, Beacon, and Seven Stories Press).

  3. We’re the wrong port of call if you’re shopping children’s picture books, Christian or other religious inspiration, cookbooks, academic monographs, or regional-interest titles. Ain’t nothing wrong with any of these; they’re just not our focus areas.

  4. If you choose to send your pages as attachments, they should be compatible with Microsoft Word or Google Docs. You can also simply paste your file in the body of your email.

  5. Please specify in the subject line of your email whether you are querying Kent or Anna. Check out our bios to get a sense of our respective tastes.

  6. Once you hit “send,” you will receive an automated reply from us reiterating our gratitude and restating the submissions policy you’re reading right now. Receipt of this message indicates that your submission has landed successfully. If you don’t receive it, feel free to reach out to confirm it’s arrived.

  7. We will only reply if we have the vision and bandwidth to continue the conversation about working together. After four weeks, please consider a lack of such reply to be a pass.

  8. If and only if one of us has invited you to query us directly, feel free to send your query to our personal emails. If you’re not in that category, rest assured: We do check our general submissions inbox, and we check it frequently.

  9. Thank you in advance for adhering to this policy. It’s not our favorite either, but we’ve put it in place to prioritize work for our existing clients as well as our personal safety. We’re so excited to receive your submission and will review it with interest.

  10. On average, we’re able to sign fewer than half a dozen of the thousands and thousands of submissions we receive annually.

  11. We cannot read or accept queries made via the mail, in person, or over the phone unless by prior agreement and for reasons related to accessibility.
